Secretary - Simon Cobden, E-mail: secretary@southeastsuffolks.co.uk The South East Branch covers the area Kent/Sussex/Surrey/Hampshire/Berkshire/Isle of Wight/Buckinghamshire/Essex/Hertfordshire. It was set up in April 2004. Apologies for Absence were received from Colin Champ, Jane Fairbank, Charles Fuggle, Richard Jupp, Denis Pym and Rosemary Whitcombe. 2. Report from Philip Long - Council Member. Philip explained the Areas had changed and reduced in number due to rising costs. The meetings will now be held in Edinburgh rather than London to reduce expenses. Also the Society computer system is nearing its sell by date and a new system is being introduced combining the Texel and Limousin Cattle Societies details. The registration fees are to change and should go down rather than up. There was some discussion on birth notification fees, which we will hear about later from the society. The Eastern Area Club is still going to continue and would welcome any new members. The Southern Club although, at present, still operating, will close today as it is felt that we could not find two committees. It is essential to have a Branch committee and it is hoped that the Branch will operate on the same lines as the Club, although finance could be a problem. Philip concluded by saying that he would be standing down as a council member next year and hoped someone else would take over. Simon Cobden continued by explaining why the Club had been formed on 28 November 1986 and read a few paragraphs from the minutes of the first AGM. He went on to say how the numbers had dwindled over the years both in the Club and in the Branch areas and how difficult it was to keep the Club going. The Club has a healthy bank balance of around £1500. 3. Proposal to disband the Club. It was proposed by Malcolm Stevens and seconded by Peter Rycraft that the Southern Suffolk Sheep Breeders Club be disbanded and members and funds transferred to the South East Branch of the Suffolk Sheep Society. This motion was carried unanimously. 4. Election of Committee of the South East Branch of the Suffolk Sheep Society. Chairman- Philip Long - proposed by Peter Rycraft and seconded by Keith Manning. Secretary - Simon Cobden - proposed by Jane Aldhouse and seconded by Malcolm Stevens. Vice Chairman - Colm Flanagan - proposed by Philip Long and seconded by Malcolm Stevens. Committee - Peter Heath, Peter Rycraft, Keith Manning and Malcolm Stevens were all proposed and seconded. It was agreed that the Chairman should hold office for two years and the rest of the committee be re-elected every year. 5. Any Other Business. Early ram sale at Ashford market, there was little interest in this as it was felt to be too early, although some breeders would support it. Advertising. Richard and Hilary Jupp are still willing to run the Website and will set up a new address. The new committee will organise a new programme. A Flock competition is to be arranged for the Autumn - details to follow. The first committee meeting will be held on Wednesday 5 May - venue to be confirmed. The meeting closed at 2pm. |
